Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (1998)

This film works best when seen as a fanfic of one of the few Bollywood couples I ship- Kajol and Ajay Devgn. It has all the best tropes- they pretend to date to make her ex-fiancé jealous, they have to sleep in the same room because only one is available at the hotel, and most importantly, she is scared of flying, and the only time she doesn't completely freak out is when he's with her. I MEAN, god bless my poor heart. Plus, there are some bops in there too? Also, rom-coms with airport chase sequences >>>>

I really miss these 90s clean Bollywood rom-coms, when they weren't trying too hard to be "modern" or whatever. So wholesome and enjoyable, especially when the lead pair has such amazing chemistry. I know I'm probably in a minority here, but Ajay-Kajol is a superior pairing to the the much celebrated SRK-Kajol. I find the latter a tad overrated because both of them have better chemistry with other actors. Sigh. Waiting for all the DDLJ stans to come attack me.

Speaking of DDLJ, this one has actually aged well, unlike so-called iconic movies like well, DDLJ, and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and can be rewatched without cringeing and #childhoodruined moments. Seriously, I don't understand why this one has remained so underrated in the pop culture conscience. I mean, it could have been edited a little better, but that's literally a problem with 90% of 90s movies (hehe) so it doesn't even count anymore.

In conclusion, venture beyond the handful of 90s movies Bollywood fans keep on talking about, and you'll find some actual gems. Also, someone make a good age-appropriate romance with Ajay and Kajol soon pls.

There is honestly nothing more annoying than a movie that has flashes of being a good movie, but turns out to be a bad one anyway. Aasai (1995)

My only regret is that I wish I knew absolutely nothing about this movie before watching it. I know I'm 26 years too late to the party, but honestly, not knowing the basic premise would have made things even more scary and messed up, not that there wasn't enough of those sentiments already. But to watch it unfold like the psychotic drama it was on the big screen, while innocently expecting another cute sweet love story featuring foetus Thala... I would give anything to have that experience. I know we love poking fun at Prakash Raj for being the evergreen villain, but it takes an Aasai for one to truly understand why he's earned that reputation. Pokiri (2006)

Sairam, thank god I had forgotten the "twist", despite having seen Bhai's Wanted (2009) when it came out. Not only was I majorly zoned out (so much that I don't even remember for sure if I slept for sometime in the middle) but I have also actively tried to erase all memories of it. Which is why I was shocked enough to legit scream when the big twist came along.  From what I have heard about Pokiri , it sounds like some kind of cultural reset. And going by that, I must say that it totally lived up to that hype. Prince Mahesh seems to be at the peak of his career, and it's a performance that is memorable in more ways than one- he really shines through as the cool, stylish hero who outsmarts villains and beats them up.
