Race Gurram (2014)

Daaavvvvvvvvvvuda, what a movie. A1 sibling representation- something that we so rarely get to see on screen. I loved how even after Lucky (Allu Arjun) realised that he truly loves his brother Ram (Shaam), and is "connected" to him, he continues to torture him, which I wholeheartedly respect. That's literally how sibling relationships work, and it's beautiful.

My biggest complaint from the movie is the complete under-utilisation of Prakash Raj. I was lowkey waiting for a scene with him and Ravi Kishan; I can guarantee that this movie would have been a lot funnier had that scene materialised.

Speaking of comedy, how can I not mention how brilliant, stupendous, FANTASTIC Allu Arjun's comic timing is??? Lucky's dramatics were not just rel8 max, but also endearingly entertaining. I only have one response to his reactions and dialogue delivery- DAAAVVVVVVUDA. I've said this before and I'll say it again- Allu Arjun is what Salman fans think Salman is, but obviously, Bhai is nowhere close to Bunny. I sincerely hope he never stops making such indigenius movies, because I have a feeling I'll need to watch them every 5th August henceforward. *cries in secularism*

Before I forget: trigger warning for an extremely cringe-inducing homophobic scene. Sigh. It honestly could have been wholesomely funnier, but no. No no no. Heteronormativityyyyyy (in the style of Lucky screaming Siva Reddy). Oh, and another reason to hate heteronormativity (hate-ronormativity) is the fact that the chemistry between Kill Bill Pandey (Bramhanandam) and Siva Reddy (Ravi Kishan) was way better than the chemistry between Lucky and Spandana (Shruti Haasan). I swear, seeing things with a gay gaze (gay-ze) (I need to stop) is both fulfilling and depressing at the same time.

Also, the cop glorification gets tiring after a while. They did not have to go that far, we already know how much Indian cinema fetishises this profession. Another thing that I loved about this movie was the bit where they highlighted how easily Indians fall for fake news, and how mainstream media (especially TV) is structured to propagate fake news and emotionally manipulate people. I wish I could say God help us all, but that just sounds like mockery today.

In conclusion, Allu Arjun is officially one of my favourite actors now. And if you're gonna have Prakash Raj in 6/5 Telugu films, then PLEASE use his talent properly.

PS- the music rocks. *dances to Cinema Choopista Mava, taandav style*
