Athadu (2005)

My major response to this movie can be summed up thus- "Trivikram interact with more women challenge". I still do not understand why Trisha's character was written the way it was. It would have been better to just not have the romantic track at all. Or to have a gay one. Yes, I stand by my belief that if Trivi was to write a fun gay rom-com, something in the style of his vintage stuff (K. Vijaya Bhaskar, pls return to meddle), it would change the course of Indian cinema forever. I can already visualise it- Mahesh Babu and Venky as the lead couple (this would also provide closure for us SVSC fans) and Sunil as the BFF who ultimately unites them. Allu Arjun must have a guest appearance too. And please, NO WOMEN.

Apart from all this, I actually really liked Athadu. The twists and turns were all galaxy brain (which is what I came for), and more importantly, Trivi was playing with a full deck of the best villains (Sayaji Shinde, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Sonu Sood, Rahul Dev and Tanikella Bharani) and the best comedians (Sunil, Brahmanandam and M.S. Narayana) so the movie was automatically enjoyable. Prakash Raj was neither fother nor villain, but no complaints from me. It's good to branch out once in a while. Also, let me just state for the record that Trivi ripped off his own film (Athadu) while writing the very first scene of S/O Satyamurthy (2015). Normies rip off masters, but legends rip themselves off.

My favourite part of the movie was Sunil's "break it down" bit in the song 'Pilichina Raanantaava'. And when he reveals the truth to everyone- yes, Sunil dropping truth bombs is one of my favourite movie genres and yes, I'm a man of culture. How could I forget though, the scene where Mahesh Babu cries. We have no choice but to stan a prince unafraid to show his emotions. See, Trivi can write men so sensitively, is it too much to hope for an all-male gay comedy? IS IT???

In conclusion, we should all be thankful that it was Venky restoring the grandma's painting in Nuvvu Naaku Nachav (2001), and not Fother.
