Darna Mana Hai (2003)

My third Sameera Reddy movie of the year- that's three movies too many than I would ever prefer tbh. This woman somehow has an unparalleled ability to progressively get more on my nerves with every single scene of hers. It's not even the fact that she is a bad actress, it's something else altogether, and I hate it. I hate it so much.

Otherwise, this movie was a good one. I was not expecting too much, because I have unfortunately been exposed to what passes as "horror" in Hindi cinema (not that I prefer white horror movies, just to be clear), but this was a pleasant surprise. The weakest links, I would say, were the beginning and the end. For once, it wasn't entirely Sohail Khan's fault- the story that he starred in was just so bleh, even a good actor couldn't have salvaged it. And the ending, which hinged on Sushant Singh, could have been so much creepier, especially when they had such a talented actor to carry it out. What yaa, Ramu.

The story that scared me the most was the Vivek Oberoi one. Won't say anything else, because #spoilers, but man. I am sure I will randomly think of it in the future and freak myself out. Also, I had already seen the Aftab Shivadasani bit years ago on TV, and it spooked me so much at the time that I did not dare to look in the mirror for a few days (I was a child back then, shut up). It wasn't as spooky now, but still, good effort. The Saif Ali Khan-Boman Irani story was also creepy, but honestly, it had the potential to be so much more. Speaking of Boman Irani, his performance here made R & I realise that great comedic actors make for great horror actors. Case in point being Boman Irani, Rajpal Yadav (who had such a batshit storyline here, and yet managed to leave the lasting impression of creepiness) and Paresh Rawal (who wasn't here, but I can totally see him pulling off a really great horror movie).

In conclusion, I am now looking forward to watching other horror offerings by Ramu- Raat (1992) and Kaun (1997), which R had recommended long back. Inshallah, the boi will play well. *duayein hands emoji*
