Karwaan (2018)

Miss you so much, Irrfan sir. Can't believe this was your second-last movie ever *cries in maqbool*. I feel as if something inside me has been hollowed out after finishing this movie- it has nothing to do with the movie itself, but everything to do with Irrfan Khan passing away. Sigh.

Coming back to the movie though, this was the very definition of "heartwarming". Even though it was full of clichés, like the software engineer who wanted to be a photographer, the gen z gal who is "loose", and the road trip serving as an allegory for a journey of self-discovery, the overall effect was surprisingly sweet and funny. Karwaan was at its best though, when it was a farcical exposé of corporate inefficiency. The black comedy wasn't exactly the kind that'll make you laugh out loud- it'll more likely make you smirk and remember some similar incident that happened in your own life. And well, it was certainly a mood uplifter for me, for all these reasons and more.

The performances of these individually genius actors, and their chemistry with each other, is what makes this movie stand out. I loved the bromance between Avinash (Dulquer Salmaan) and Shaukat (Irrfan Khan); I loved the comically childish fights between Shaukat and Tanya (Mithila Palkar); I loved the Rumana (Kriti Kharbanda) bit; I loved the Shaukat-Tasneem (Donna Munshi) romance; basically, I loved all the characters. Oh, and before I forget: Tahira (Amala Akkineni) was also a fav, and her role made me text a friend and rant about Amala a bit, in a good way of course (how Nagarjuna got both Amala and Tabu in the same lifetime I'll never understand).

Spoiler Alert: I was lowkey hoping for Tahira and Avinash to get together in the end. In my mind, they did. However, I was also very afraid that Avinash and Tanya will end up as a couple, and I honestly feel very relieved that that didn't happen. I guess the universe balanced itself out. Spoiler Over.

In conclusion, I want a whole movie about Tahira. And I want Irrfan back. And also a movie with Dulquer and Tabu together (yes, I am obsessed, and no, I don't care).
