Adhurs (2010)

The only appropriate way to begin this "review" is by stating that Brahmanandam garu should have won the National Award for Best Actor for this performance. It's a SHAME the way Telugu cinema has been ignored all these years by the National Awards, and reparations must be made at the earliest.

Now, at the risk of sounding overly sentimental, there really is nothing like watching a proper comedy movie with a best friend (obviously, you need to have a similar sense of humour for this to work), especially when you end up going back to your favourite scenes after it's ended and laughing all over again. This is probably why Adhurs will always have a special place in my heart, apart from giving me a whole new outlook on the phrase "guru garu" (in Chari's voice of course). Also, Tarak was redeemed in my eyes thanks to this movie, considering that I'd just seen Naa Alludu a couple of weeks back. And honestly, I'd go back and watch this movie just for Nayanthara's entry. The way my friend and I screamed "NAYAAAAANNN" in our chat box, I can totally see us whistling in a theatre, watching this movie for the third or fourth time. That's her impact, and nothing else.

Oh, and before I forget- all the "name a better duo" memes can retire now. It's either Chari-Bhattu or nothing. I will, however, make an exception for MS Narayana (RIP) and Brahmi. The way my jaw and stomach hurt while watching this movie, and 50% credit (or blame) for that goes to them alone. Also the epiphany I had before sleeping that the reason why I latched onto TFI in 2020 specifically is probably because of the insane level of good comedy there is here, which is just what I needed in this godforsaken year. Thanks, TFI. Just stop with the abrupt song transitions already though.

In conclusion, I am glad the movie didn't focus too much on the rOmAnCe (cough *Namo Venkatesa* cough) and just went ahead with being one of the best and most rewatchable comedies of all time. Special thanks to Nassar sir for gracing us with father sentiment as only he can (sorry Prakash, you lost this time).
