Ready (2008)

This film tried so hard to make us believe that RaPo was the hero, when in reality, Brahmanandam OWNED this film. He had at least 20 iconic scenes and lines, all of which have been successfully preserved for posterity through memes and gifs. RaPo was just the third male lead, after Sunil of course, who had one of the cutest and most adorable roles ever. Actually no, RaPo was the fourth person- I was honestly more invested in Nassar sir's character development. "More invested" is a bit of a stretch- I was not invested in RaPo at all, except for the purposes of roasting and trolling. I can't help it, I literally hated him from first sight- there was something so annoying about his presence, especially his voice aiyyayo. Couldn't help but wonder how much I would have loved this film if someone else had been cast in his place (*cough*alluarjun*cough*) (hey, Bunny and Genelia had good chemistry in Happy, it would have been for the best).

Moving on from the unprovoked RaPo bashing- I really enjoyed this film, despite the almost-criminal run-time. Seriously, what was the need to make it this long?? I had a lot of fun with my bestie, trying to decode which movie influenced which section of the film- the first half of the first half was definitely Okkadu + Kshana Kshanam, the romance bits were DDLJ and the joint family aesthetics were K3G. And yes, Vaitla is very much an SRK simp (takes one to know one) and I appreciate him all the more for that. Also for his ability to create the most hilariously elaborate situations, but mostly the SRK simping. DSP's songs are good only but I'm afraid I couldn't enjoy them much because they were just adding to the already excessive minutes constituting this movie. Maybe things will get better after a rewatch where I exclusively focus on Brahmi and Sunil, but till then, I need a massive cleanse from RaPo.

In conclusion, can't believe Asin did so many Hindi movies with Bhai, including the remake of this one. Looking at it that way, I'm v glad she retired. God knows how many more movies she'd have to do with him otherwise.
