Sontham (2002)

Sunil's comedy track in Sontham is legendary among Telugu audiences, and rightfully so. My face hurt after laughing long and hard at every single scene he was in, especially the infamous "jihad" scene (now that's how you make a non-Islamophobic jihad joke), which is a masterpiece on its own. His chemistry with M.S. Narayana is brilliant and together, those two are nothing short of magic.

As for the rest of the movie, it is a very typical early 00s rom-com. Every single moment is predictable, but entertaining in its own way. I personally did not care for the main couple at all, since from their very first scene together it was apparent how it was all going to go down. However, I was pretty invested in the Bose-Sowmya storyline, and that sustained my interest in the movie even when it became clear that Sunil's scenes were pretty much finished. The songs were also nice, and to be honest, everything except the comedy scenes do work as wonderfully comforting background noise. It's just that kind of a movie.

In conclusion, if you don't care more about the food you sneak in while your parents/guardians are away for the night than your college exams, what even is the point?
